Barbara is a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney in the Biotechnology and Life Sciences Group.
Her specialism is in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields, including diagnostic technologies, antibodies, biopharmaceuticals, microorganisms, cosmetics, vaccines and stem cells.
Barbara has extensive experience of supporting start-up companies and SMEs, guiding them through the IP process and building strong IP portfolios through drafting and worldwide prosecution and management of patent applications. Her approach is tailored and commercially focused and she is well versed in freedom to operate advice and attacking and defending patents during Opposition Proceedings before the European Patent Office. She has also provided strategic advice on SPC applications.
Barbara has an MA Cantab (Natural Sciences) from Cambridge University which focused on genetics and biochemistry, as well as a Ph.D. in microbial molecular biology from the University of Warwick. She is a member of the CIPA Life Sciences Committee and a regular conference speaker on aspects of biotechnology patenting. Barbara is fluent in German and also speaks French.
